Learn more about the Boxer.

heartworm negative

Hi, My name is Mika - but if you're open to me joining your family, you can name me anything you want!

I’m a well trained, easy-going female Boxer. When a group of neighbors found me alone and hungry this past April, my life started looking up. Even though I was a little thin and had no identifying tags or chip, my spirits remained high and my disposition was friendly and easy going.

You’ll quickly see that I like people and other dogs, young and old … large and small. I’m definitely an indoor girl; while inside, I mingle well with everybody. If you’ve been gone awhile, I’ll always be happy to see you when you return. Though happy and frisky when you arrive, I won’t jump up on you or others.

If your house has a secure fenced in yard, I’ll play outside, weather permitting … and speaking of weather, I’m not bothered by thunder storms. When walking outside, I’m very leash obedient and will walk or run at any pace you choose. Since I’m a middle-aged gal, however, I would appreciate not running with athletes in serious competitive training.

When I'm with other dogs, I’m very well-behaved. I really like walking regularly with other neighborhood dogs. If I meet new dogs while walking, I don’t get overly excited unless the pack makes an excited “groupthink” reaction. Even then, I’ll probably be the calmest one. To be truthful, however, I’m a little curious about cats - but I keep my distance. I suspect I’m going to like cats more than they’ll like me.

After fattening me up a bit and doing research, the people who found me decided Houston Boxer Rescue would be the best way for me to find a “Forever Home.” However, before introducing me, they wanted make sure I would be at my best.  First, Dr. Katie Eick of South by South Vets gave me all my vaccinations and maintenance meds, tested me for heart worms (negative), inserted a microchip, and removed a few unsightly tags. Since a very small growth tested positive for mast cells, I was referred to Texas A&M’s Oncology Department in order to be sure I didn’t have anything serious. A&M conducted all sorts of tests, including X-Rays, ultrasound imaging, blood work and more. The results were great; the growth in question was considered localized and not a danger to my health.

Having been fully vetted by the best in pet healthcare, I’m ready to join your family with a clean bill of health. Nonetheless, I encourage you to ask Houston Boxer Rescue for all my records. I’m feeling safe and I know you’ll be pleased, too.  If you wish to check me out even more, please look at my video story and other images on this site. I also have a personal Facebook page, https://www.facebook.com/mikathefemaleboxer/

Let’s get together! The nice people at Houston Boxer Rescue are ready to arrange a “meet and greet.”

Until then, bow wow and love …

Mika
