Animal Success Stories
... Janine Allen ...
Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.
I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.
As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.
She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.
Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.
I would promise to keep her safe. I would promise to always be by her side. I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.
I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.
I rescued a human today.

ROLLIE POLLIE
(4.19.10) Hello! I am writing you to tell you how wonderful the dog we adopted from your organization is. Java has been an absolute joy to own and have around the house. We got her as a companion for our two-year-old Lab, and they are madly in love with one another. They play incessantly, groom one another, and even chew on the same chew bone at the same time! It is hysterical and heartwarming to watch them together. I've had dogs my entire life, and I don't think I've ever seen two dogs love each other more, than these two do. Last night, Java went into the backyard and returned with a teeny tiny, three-week-old kitten in her mouth, which she took upstairs and gave to my husband. Somehow, this kitten had gotten into the backyard, and we have no idea how. The vet believes a mother cat carried the kitten over the fence and tried to hide it somewhere out of the rain. It's a mystery, for we have looked all day for other kittens and for the mother cat and have not found either. Because of Java, the kitten is out of the rain, doing well, and has been adopted by a vet technician at the vet. Java very well may have saved this kitten's life! That's the kind of dog she is. Wonderful! Thank you so much for giving us the opportunity to have such a great pet. ---Mary Valk
RANSOM
(6.26.09) We just wanted to let you know that Sampson (aka Ransom) is doing great! He has been a great addition to our family. We have battled a little bit of aggressivess towards other dogs. However, visits to the dog park have helped him become more comfortable. Sam has been a great companion for myself and my children. We have started exercising daily because Sam loves going for walks. He is spoiled rotten! I can't imagine our family without him! I am going to send some pics. ---Thank you,
Corey, Maddy and Carter
