Animal Success Stories

Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

SAMSON
SAMSON

(10.29.09) “Hi! We adopted Sampson last November and he became the newest member of the family. He joins us going to doggy parks and long walks on the trails around the neighborhood, the rest of the time he wants to be touching someone. Sampson has gained about twenty pounds, since he came to live with us.

SALLY
SALLY

(10.29.09) “I adopted Sally from Houston Boxer Rescue even though she is a border collie. She is wonderful. She is a happy, lovable, sweet, sweet dog. She loves to ride in our golf cart. She loves all children and will kiss you forever if you let her. Thank you for rescuing her too!!!”

SHELBY
SHELBY

(3.9.09) Thanks for everything. We love Shelby very much and she seems to be happy and right at home with us. We've been playing with her all day and now she is beat and crashed on the rug in the living room with Melissa. I'm in the study preparing for tomorrow and have my web cam on Shelby so my family can see her across town. I look forward to get'n up early in the morning and taking her for a wake up walk in the park. We can't thank you enough for helping us get Shelby and you are right, she is a big sweetie. If you have facebook and would like my wife and I to add you so you can see Shelby and contact us we would be happy to add you. Call or visit at your leisure. ---Cory
