Skyline Bar

 ... Janine Allen  ...

Her eyes met mine as she walked down the corridor peering apprehensively into the kennels. I felt her need instantly and knew I had to help her.

I wagged my tail, not too exuberantly, so she wouldn’t be afraid. As she stopped at my kennel I blocked her view from a little accident I had in the back of my cage. I didn’t want her to know that I hadn’t been walked today. Sometimes the overworked shelter keepers get too busy and I didn’t want her to think poorly of them.

As she read my kennel card I hoped that she wouldn’t feel sad about my past. I only have the future to look forward to and want to make a difference in someone’s life.

She got down on her knees and made little kissy sounds at me. I shoved my shoulder and side of my head up against the bars to comfort her. Gentle fingertips caressed my neck; she was desperate for companionship. A tear fell down her cheek and I raised my paw to assure her that all would be well.

Soon my kennel door opened and her smile was so bright that I instantly jumped into her arms.

I would promise to keep her safe.
I would promise to always be by her side.
I would promise to do everything I could to see that radiant smile and sparkle in her eyes.

I was so fortunate that she came down my corridor. So many more are out there who haven’t walked the corridors. So many more to be saved. At least I could save one.

I rescued a human today.

PIPER

(7.13.12)  Just wanted to let you know that Piper is right at home. She is a loving dog who loves her new family. I tore my rotator cuff and had surgery yesterday and my little cuddle buddy has not left my side. -- Stephen T.

(8.31.12)  Piper is doing wonderful. She has adapted just fine with everyone in the family from adults to a 6 year old and an 8 month old.  Piper loves to play with her new brother (6 year old) and allows her new sister (8 month old) to climb all over her. She is very well behaved and loves to please everyone in the house. She loves going on her nightly walks and even gets to hang out in the front yard with us (since she won’t run off).  Here are a few pics of Piper enjoying her new family (she is a cuddler).

PATCHES

02.14.11
Patches is doing great.  She is very sweet and loving and wants to be close by almost always.  She is happiest when she gets to run and play.  She had a couple of accidents in the house - 3 in the same room - but I think we solved it by keeping that room closed off for now and taking her out frequently until we can get in a regular routine.  The kids are loving her and have been very gentle with her although we still keep a close eye on our 3 yr old.  She loves to jump up and "hug" my husband and seems to know to only jump up on him.

PEG
PEG

02.14.11
Peggy is still the happiest boxer on the planet. She and her brother Bill are perfect siblings, they belong together. They go to the dog park 3 or 4 times a week and really enjoy it. We have to be careful when getting our keys out, can’t jingle them or we are attacked!!!! Sometimes we just bring them to get a plain and dry double cheeseburger, and every Saturday and Sunday they each get two slices of fresh bacon, and let me tell you, they know when it’s the weekend!  Thanks again for giving us Peg.

PIKA

01.03.11
She is the most perfect little girl.  She was the star of her training class and we absolutely can’t believe how lucky we were to get her.  She is very social and loves to play with other dogs and kids.  The neighbor kids bring her toys and get so excited to see her every day, she is the star puppy of the block!

(12.8.10)
I wanted to update you on Pika that we adopted in July.  We actually changed her name to Alli and she is the most amazing pup we've ever had.  She is so loving and sweet and is the valedictorian of her training class.  We are still working on loose leash walking but she sits, lays and heels perfectly.  Here is our latest photo.  We are so excited to have her in our family and hope to add a friend sometime in the distant future!

PUFF

(11.19.10)

Hello,

Puff’s name was changed to Rook, so he and his brother could be a set.  His brother’s name is Bishop as in the chess game.  We did have a couple of bumps in the road, since Rook was deaf and had not learned to play softly.  Bishop has been with us since he was 8 weeks old and has a very sweet disposition and has put up with a lot of the ups and downs of his adopted brother.  Rook seems to be very happy here with the Valentinis-Dee family.  He gets to stay out of his crate and lounge around the house for as long as I am at home and since I am a stay at home mom the boys only have to be crated for 3 to 5 hours on grocery shopping day, but if the weather is pleasant they get to stay outside.  The funny thing is those two would rather stay in their crates while I am gone then play in the backyard(I do not get it!).  When I have to be out of the house longer the boys go to day camp at Waggin’ Tails in Fulshear, where they are known for playing nicely with their groups.  Rook even has a friend who is as big as a Mastiff, I almost freaked out as any owner would do, seeing this big dog hanging out with their pups, but he too is a very sweet even tempered dog.  Bishop weighs 63 pounds now and Rook weighs 60, and they look hilarious chasing eachother around the yard.  I am glad I looked on your site that fateful day and saw Rook, I feel that he was a good addition to the family, I only wish we could have spared him all the homes he had to go through and I will always wonder why his previous owners gave him up to a shelter, when he is just as sweet as our first boy.  One last thing, he does have a personality all his own, he seems to want to make sure I give him attention and he likes to stick by me.  I hope this helps for his update, he is growing each day and seems to enjoy the environment he is in and we spare no expense for our animals in the household, so he is very well taken care of.

Thank You,
Pamela Valentinis-Dee
